LPMC™ Advantages

The advantages realized by using LPMC™ material from Preferred Molding Compounds are substantial, though they will vary from molder to molder, depending on their present process capability.

Traditional SMC operations will see the following advantages by using our LPMC™ material:

• An ability to mold at pressures as low as 100 psi
    • As a result of working in a low pressure environment, tooling and maintenance
           costs will be dramatically reduced
    • You will become more competitive at lower part volumes
    • Better rib fill
    • Better flow characteristics
    • An increase in compound shelf life – up to several months
    • An ability to use more elaborate inserts
    • Capability of molding with strategically placed dry glass preforms
    • Allows for the molding of larger parts in existing presses
    • Potential to increase productivity by using multiple tools in a single press

RTM and Cold Press molders will benefit in some additional areas:

    • Elimination of secondary trimming by molding net-sized parts
    • Complete elimination of the dry glass preform operation, and associated waste factors
    • Dramatically reduced cycle times
    • User friendly process, easy operator training
    • Will allow you to compete for higher volume jobs with existing presses

Open Molders will enjoy all of the benefits listed above plus a few more:

    • Dramatic reduction in VOC’s
    • Good housekeeping capabilities

For Open Molding operations the introduction of LPMC™ creates tremendous opportunities for growth and profit. As a result of working with low pressures and lower cost tooling, lower tonnage presses can be utilized. This will dramatically reduce the "barrier to entry" into the automated compression molding arena.
