About Preferred Molding Compounds
Preferred Molding Compounds (PMC) is a producer of what is commonly referred to as "Sheet Molding Compound", or SMC. We specialize in producing "Low Pressure Molding Compounds", otherwise known as LPMC. The main differences between LPMC and SMC is that LPMC can be molded at much lower pressures, sometimes as low as 100 psi. Even under these low molding pressures, LPMC exhibits excellent flow characteristics. In addition, Preferred Moldings LPMC has a "molding window" of several months, while typical SMC materials are limited to weeks.
The thickening process of LPMC from Preferred Molding is one of its unique properties and characteristics. PMC compounds contain no earth oxide thickener, and therefore do not thicken chemically, but are thickened physically as a result of "Crystic Impreg Technology". This unique material is compounded at elevated temperatures where the crystalline polymer melts and compounding takes place much like conventional SMC. This lack of chemical thickening, with Preferred Moldings LPMC, results in its superior molding characteristics at low pressures.
At Preferred Molding we believe the versatility and competitive economics LPMC provides will result in new opportunities for the FRP Industry for years to come.
PMC believes the future for Low Pressure Molding is NOW!
